About Heather Gardens
As the second largest community specifically designed for senior adults in the south Denver metropolitan area, Heather Gardens offers plenty of housing choices plus a wonderfully active yet peaceful lifestyle for residents who are all more than 55 years old. Heather Gardens real estate options encompass various choices to meet older adults’ needs for low maintenance living. This community has a median age of 64 years old, slightly more females than males, and is situated in the city of Aurora, CO.
Types of homes available
For the more than 3400 senior adults who live in Heather Gardens, finding affordable housing while living on a fixed and often limited income is important. Among the more than 2,400 modern-style yet homey units of housing available, there are multiple-level condominium buildings, townhouses, and patio homes. Many homes offer magnificent Rocky Mountain views, attached garages, and basements.
Alpha
The 12 four story Alpha buildings are situated south of the clubhouse along the west side of the community. These building have detached covered parking in one of four structures near each building, either in garages on top or in reserved parking below, and building laundry facilities located on the 2nd floor of each building. There are no washer/dryer hook-ups in the individual apartments of these buildings.
Somerset, Seville and Atrium
These buildings all have under building parking garages and laundry hook-ups in the apartments. The 12 six story Somerset buildings are located on East Linvale Place and East Marina Drive.
The 6 Seville buildings, located by the federal wildlife area at the southeast corner, have as their centerpiece a separate park area. The park includes and outdoor pool and whirlpool, tennis court and duck pond. During the planning for these buildings, room and balcony sizes were downsized slightly for economy of construction.
The 4 Atrium buildings have a central interior courtyard. Covered with skylights 80 feet above the lobby floor, the courtyard provides a bright and elegant atmosphere.
Omega
The single three-story Omega building is located just beside the Clubhouse and was the last multi-story structure built in 1986. It has and under building parking garage and laundry hook-ups in the apartments.
Townhomes and Patio Homes The townhomes are two stories plus a basement, four units to a building. The top level has three bedrooms with guest and master bath, the main level is living, dining, and kitchen space, a half bath, walkout patio and an attached 2 car garage. Basement level was originally unfinished, but most now have laundry, storage, bath and/or living area in a full or partial finish. Most of the Patio Homes are 1176 square feet plus the same in the basement with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths on the main floor. There are some 3 bedroom (1372 sq. ft.) and a few are 2 story plus a basement. As with the townhomes, parking is in the attached 2 car garage. Only 255 Patio Homes were built.
Fitness and Amenities
Residents at Heather Gardens have absolutely no problem staying fit and active. There are more choices than there are hours in the day, and the sunny climate all year long makes it easy to get outside no matter what the temperature is. The community looks similar to a large park and is situated on about 200 acres of land. There’s a 2-mile-long walking path going through the neighborhood plus a top-notch 9-hole golf course and pro shop.
The 30,000-square-foot Heather Gardens Club House is a thriving hub of activity 7 days per week, including an indoor pool, outdoor pool in the summer, exercise classes, tennis, pickleball and 1,800-square-foot exercise area. As if that weren’t enough, there are also areas for ping pong, billiards, and other activities. Classes in the Club House that encourage you to stay active gardening and photography.
Hop on your bike at Heather Gardens, because the trails in the community connect directly to Denver’s extensive bike trails. Next to Heather Gardens is the beautiful and expansive Cherry Creek State Park. Make sure to take your camera to snap photos in the wildlife viewing areas. Other activities in this scenic area include hiking, bicycling, fishing, and boating.
